When shopping online it is impossible to know exactly what the product is gonna be like when you receive it. So, how do we decide when an online product is worth buying? Well, personally for me, the most important thing is the presentation of the item. How does it look? How does the website look? The next thing I consider is the brand’s reputation. Is this company well known and reputable? Or is the internet scattered with poor reviews about its services? A lot of this can be used to improve your Etsy shop!

Now get ready for some tips to improve your Etsy shop, make it look more professional, and increase the chances of potential customers becoming actual customers!
Shop Look
You want your shop to look professional. This means making sure you have a logo, banner, and profile picture. Take some time to fill out all your policies and write an about me so that people know that there’s an actual person with a passion behind the purchase they make. Think about it in terms of Facebook. If you see a profile without any posts or a profile picture you probably get the wiggins. But, if you get a friend request from someone with loads of albums, posts, and profile pictures your more likely to believe that they’re an actual person. By knowing more about someone’s life and being able to see it, you automatically trust them more. This is the same for your Etsy shop. People want to know about you and see that you’ve put effort into creating your shop.

Product Images
Because Etsy is an online marketplace one of the only ways and in my opinion, the most important way, a potential customer judges your item is they way they look in the photo. This means that even if whatever you’re selling is AMAZING if the image quality is crap, people are gonna assume that your item is also crap.
- Keep it SIMPLE!!
You want your item to be the main focus of your image. This means take it against a plain surface. You don’t need a million decorations surrounding your item. This just gets confusing and distracts from what you’re selling. All you need is a white background and some awesome light.
- Mockups!
I love using mockups for my products. It keeps my shop look consistent and I’m guaranteed professional level quality! Plus it saves time.
My all-time favorite mockups are these mug mockups!

Reviews
I don’t know about you but I’m someone who loves reading reviews on a product before I buy it. Whether that be Amazon or Etsy. I want to make sure that I’m not going to be disappointed after my money is already gone and there’s nothing I can do about it. So, this is why it’s important to gather 5-star reviews on your shop. Now, obviously, your store is gonna start out without having any reviews. To start getting more 5 star reviews, ask your family and friends to buy something from your shop and leave a good review.
Whenever you send out an order leave a small note thanking your customer, telling them to let you know if they have any issues, and if they’re happy with their product to leave a 5-star review. And finally, have IMPECCABLE customer service. If someone comes to you with a problem, don’t ignore them. They will leave you a bad review. Instead, do everything in your power to fix this problem. This will show your customers that you really, truly, care about them and your service. Feeling like they are valued will make them more likely to leave a good review.
Making sure you have a good reputation is an important step to take if you want to improve your Etsy shop!
Product Consistency
When I go into a shop I want to see consistency in the type of products that shop sells. For example, I sell mugs, prints, and greeting cards. Now the consistency in what I sell lies in the fact that everything is totally hand-lettered by me. So you obviously don’t need to only sell one type of product. But your products should all be related somehow. Your shop shouldn’t be selling crochet patterns, terrarium kits, and engagement rings. I want to know that you are an expert in whatever it is you’re selling. If I see someone selling crochet patterns as well as engagement rings how can I be sure that they’re truly an expert in crochet if they have so many other focuses? I want to get a crochet pattern from a crochet expert. If you are an expert in multiple things you could consider opening multiple Etsy shops.

I can imagine this would be a very helpful thing for people looking to sell on Etsy. I do think simple is beautiful when it comes to looking into things to sell. Overdoing it just makes things too busy.

I agree, each of these is so important for any online presence. It’s true that hearing more personal story let’s you get to know and feel like you can trust the seller.
